A world-class VIP experience at Zimbali Lakes

On Thursday, 12 June, the highly anticipated BCX Golf Cup set the tone for the Absa SuperSport Shootout weekend with an exclusive day of golf, camaraderie, and luxury. Hosted by BCX CEO Jonas Bogoshi, the event took place at the spectacular Zimbali Lakes Golf Course — the first time participants had the privilege of playing the newly opened layout designed by legendary golfer Ernie Els.

VIP guests were chauffeured in style to the course by BMW, adding to the sense of prestige from the very start. The event followed a Betterball Greensomes Stableford format over the full 18 holes, with all teams playing off a scratch (0) handicap. Points were awarded as follows: Albatross – 5 points, Eagle – 4 points, Birdie – 3 points, Par – 2 points, Bogey – 1 point, Double Bogey or higher – 0 points.

In the Greensomes format, each player in the fourball teed off, and the team selected the best tee shot. From there, both players played their own ball until the hole was completed, with the better score counting as the team’s betterball score. This format was chosen to keep the competition fun and engaging. Adding to the excitement, double points were awarded on the final hole — a twist that proved decisive in the day’s outcome.

After an exhilarating round on one of South Africa’s most talked-about new courses, guests enjoyed refreshing drinks and lively conversation before heading to The Capital Hotel, Zimbali, for a relaxed and elegant dinner.

The BCX Cup Winners for 2025 were Schalk Brits and Oscar Chalupsky, finishing two points clear on 40 points. The double-points rule on the last hole created a nail-biting finish, forcing John Smit and Butch James into a playoff against Jonas Bogoshi and Shaheen Vawda. The playoff came down to a tense putt-off on the final hole, with Bogoshi and Vawda securing the win.

With its blend of business networking, sporting excellence, and first-class hospitality, the BCX Golf Cup once again proved why it’s a highlight on the golfing calendar — and the perfect prelude to the Absa SuperSport Shootout.
